on the test
A test for herpes antibodies is designed to measure the level of antibodies to the herpes simplex virus (HSV) present in the blood of the subject.
There are several herpes viruses that are tested, which cause several diseases such as:
Herpes type 1 (HSV-1 is the most common cause of sores that swell in the mouth area (lips, palate), and rarely for infection in the central nervous system and brain inflammation (herpes encephalitis);
Herpes type 2 (HSV-2) is the most common cause of sores that swell in the genital area or a sexually transmitted disease.
By oral contact, herpes type 1 can be transmitted to the genital system and vice versa to the lips and mouth area.
The VARICELLA virus is the cause of chicken pox (VZV) in childhood and shingles (Zoster/ Shingles) and skin rash in adults.
There are several possible tests to test for herpes viruses, but the most common tests are testing the level of herpes antibodies, which the body develops to the virus following infection, a PCR urine test for the herpes virus in the genital system or a direct test under a microscope using a surface from the wound.
A little about the Infection
Once infected with the virus, the incubation period between infection and the appearance of the first symptoms is between two and seven days. The first attack will pass within three weeks, but during that time you will infect the person you sleep with, or kiss (if the sores appear on the lip). Nosebleeds are usually shorter and smaller, especially if treated. However, recurrent outbreaks are also highly contagious.
Herpes and pregnancy
The virus can pass to the newborn from the mother through the birth canal and cause him deformities and is dangerous. For this reason, it is desirable that a pregnant woman diagnosed with genital herpes be monitored for the disease before giving birth.
